Permafrost is all the ancient plant matter that used to be safely frozen away in the arctic but is now beginning to thaw, releasing methane into the atmosphere. This creates a feedback loop of more thawing, more methane released, higher temperatures and dramatically less chance we'll be able to stop it.

If you'd like to make your own signs they're incredibly cheap and easy to make. Besides your computer all you need is cardboard, paint, duct tape and an overhead projector.

Each of these pictures represents five or six hours lazily tracing, painting and listening to music.

How To Make Signs

Attaching signs to fencing is quick and easy to do: Place sign against fence, strap a couple of bungee cords across the back, duct tape the corners and walk away... takes about ten seconds.

Next time you're on the freeway look around at all the fencing surrounding you and figure out which bits are easy to see but not so easy to get to: those are generally the best places to put up signs.

I've been doing this for ten years now, putting up literally thousands of signs and have yet to be prosecuted. The handful of times I've been caught by authorities has resulted in nothing more than having to act contrite and take down the sign. Well worth it, in my opinion.
