Massive Protest Rocks Southland!

Authorities Fear Drivers May Be Distracted From Billboards, Advertising
Los Angeles (AP) - Almost all major freeways in and around Los Angeles were hit yesterday with signs decrying the war in Iraq and calling for the impeachment of George W. Bush, police said. "It was massive..." declared one LAPD official, " Hollywood, Pasadena, Santa Monica... all the freeways were hit. There's no telling how many people saw these signs, but it's gonna run into the hundreds of thousands."

Incredibly, authorities are claiming the protest to be the work of just one person, known as "The Freewayblogger", or "Scarlet P.", and that there's little they can do to stop him. "Unlike most demonstrations, which are announced and planned in advance, this guy can hit anywhere, at any time. The only way we could get him is to be everywhere all the time... we simply don't have the manpower."

Complicating matters further is the question of whether or not this form of protest is actually illegal: "While it does transgress certain local ordinances and vehicle codes, there's no question it's also protected by the First Amendment. Let's face it, nobody seemed to mind when all those flags went up on overpasses after September 11th. Until the matter's decided in court, all we can do is leave it up to the individual officer's discretion. In general, political messages are fine, so long as they don't contradict what's currently being said in the media."

"While as Americans we appreciate Free Speech, there's no question these signs distract drivers from billboards and corporate advertising, so we try to take them down when we can."

Going to have to pad the slim lead that the USA has over the FWB. We plan to put up 50 or so tonight in the 330. You're doing a great job, FWB.
