Talk Show Host Urges Listeners to Jam 911 Lines
Decries "Socialist" Emergency Services
NEW YORK - (AP) Following up on her attempt to jam Democratic voter helplines during the election, talk-show host Laura Ingraham told her listeners to tie up 911 Emergency lines throughout the United States, causing havoc in many places when real emergency calls could not go through. "It's a mess," said a St. Louis dispatcher. "People are dying now."
"911 calls are nothing but socialized medicine..." Ms. Ingraham responded, dismissing critics. "People are having fires, or heart attacks or whatever and the first thing they do is go crying to the government. It's time we put a stop to it."
"This is America," she continued, "If you're having a fire you have the right to shop around and get the best deal on a fire fighter, don't you? It's disgusting... And don't get me started about paramedics! If you've had a heart attack or a car accident, why should my tax dollars pay for your ambulance ride? Give me a break!"
While it's not immediately clear how many deaths the phone-jamming prank may have caused, FCC officials were reluctant to state whether any charges might be filed against her. "Oh, I imagine we'll file a cease-and-desist," said one official who preferred to remain anonymous, "But that'll be about the extent of it. After all, it was just a prank. She's just trying to be outrageous... like a female Ann Coulter."

LOL! "like a female Ann Coulter"? And what does that imply?
I can't find any reference to this online; where'd you get this story?
please tell me this is an Onion article...
USER PAYS! You socialist bastards have had a free ride on MY tax dollars for FAR too long!
...and I haven't lived in the USA in 10 years!
FB old bean, great spoof.
This is just too friggin' weird. Are you sure its for real? I know the far right are crackpots and misanthropists but there has to be a limit. Would even Mr. Coulter go this far?
I'm pretty sure this is a spoof, guys.
Seems kinda painfully obvious to me.
Just another New Age Nazi
Ya know, I AGREE with her.
Why should I have to pay for Libraries when I can't even read? Nor can anyone in my trailer park? Why shouldn't my neighbors put out the fires THEY start when their crank lab blows up?
Why should the gov't take care of these whiners?

please leave her a "nice" little message...
Too funny. Every time you do one of these things, you get someone to buy it, hook line and sinker.
This is funny. Don't you people think CNN and DNC would have beenn all over this. Anyway, Before the election I said that the Republicans would win both houses. Well that was just a botched joke. What I meant to say was that "us" (the people) would lose both houses). And that I am right on. You Democrats need to call your Reps, because Howard Dean says they will not impeach, and a lot of them say we will not withdrawl from Iraq. I have called them and told them to keep their promises, Yes I did. I am not for either issue, but I think they should keep their promises. Once again Freeway we don't agree on a lot of things, But atleast you allow all to comment and I will stand with you to make sure these Democrats do what they promised.
I just found this on http://medianeedle.blogspot.com
it was not 911 she urged her "listeners" to call, but it is enough to put her behind bars!
Uh Laura....
This is illegal.
As the weblog Firedoglake first noted, during the November 7 edition of her nationally syndicated talk radio show, Laura Ingraham urged listeners to jam the phone lines of 1-888-DEM-VOTE, a voter assistance hotline sponsored by the Democratic Party. Ingraham stated: "I want you to call it and I want you tell us what you get when you call 1-888-DEM-VOTE. They're on top of all of the shenanigans at the polling stations. One problem: you can't get through." Minutes later, while talking with a listener who called the hotline, Ingraham said: "Let's keep 'dem' lines ringing." Ingraham, a frequent Fox News contributor, is scheduled to appear on the November 7 edition of Fox News' Your World with Neil Cavuto.
According to Firedoglake, the voter assistance hotline is "now being flooded with calls from crank callers."
From the November 7 edition of Talk Radio Network's The Laura Ingraham Show:
INGRAHAM: Multiple callers are calling the 1-888-DUMB-VOTE line and they said that the line is now broken. That you can't get through.
MATT FOX (technical producer): The Democrats can't even do that right; they can't even do a help line.
INGRAHAM: First of all, you're telling people that their vote is being suppressed at all these polling stations across the country. Vote is being suppressed, what are you talking about? You want to see voter suppression? Try to vote in Iraq when you have snipers on rooftops, OK? Those people walk to the polls; they don't care about the snipers. So don't talk to me about voter suppression. That is the biggest bunch of baloney that we've been sold, and we've been sold it election after election by desperate Democrats -- 1-888-DEM-VOTE. I want you to call it, and I want you tell us what you get when you call 1-888-DEM-VOTE. They're on top of all of the shenanigans at the polling stations. One problem -- you can't get through.
[...]
CALLER: Hey, Laura, I called the 888 number. I think I cost the Democrats at least 25 cents.
INGRAHAM: What happened?
CALLER: Well, you get the number, they ask you to put in your zip code; they ask you, of course, English or Spanish.
INGRAHAM: Blood type?
CALLER: And, you know, they say that they'll trace back to your phone. They give you options as to do you want to find your polling place, did you have trouble voting?
INGRAHAM: Do you know what zip code you live in?
CALLER: Oh yeah, I did. I'm pretty sharp.
INGRAHAM: So you never got through, you never got through to talk to a real live dumb poll helper?
CALLER: No, I just got voice mail. I figured I was gonna cost as much money as I could. Well, finally, when they couldn't answer my questions electronically, they said, "We'll forward your call to the local election office."
INGRAHAM: 1-888-dim -- or dumb -- VOTE. No, it's really DEM-VOTE. Let's keep "dem" lines ringing.
The bitch has a short memory.
The 2002 New Hampshire Senate election phone jamming scandal involves the use of a telemarketing firm hired by that state's Republican Party (NHGOP) for election tampering.
During that state's 2002 election for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Robert C. Smith, the NHGOP hired GOP Marketplace, based in Northern Virginia, to jam another phone bank being used by the state Democratic Party and the firefighters' union for efforts to turn out voters on behalf of then-governor Jeanne Shaheen on Election Day. John E. Sununu, the Republican candidate, won a narrow victory. In addition to criminal prosecutions, disclosures in the case have come from an ongoing civil suit filed by the state's Democratic Party against the NHGOP.
Three men have been convicted of, or pled guilty to, federal crimes and sentenced to prison for their involvement as of 2006. A fourth is under indictment. However, investigators and those who have followed the scandal closely believe that there were more people involved at the national level. It has been suggested that some high-ranking Republican Senate leaders were aware, and more recently records showing phone calls from the political operative convicted of engineering the scheme have raised questions as to whether officials in the Bush Administration were involved as well.
Either that or she doesn't care. Prison might be a more preferable option for her instead of oversight by a Democratic Congress.
This is why this is a non issue. The 2002 scandle was done to a phone bank that made calls out. These people were calling voters to urge them to get to the polls. The republicans were calling in to the phone bank so they could not make calls out. The 1-800- dem-vote number was set up to allow people to call in. At no time did she tell anyone to harrass or do anything wrong. She said to call in and find out what they say. Nothing illegal about that. The number was set up to recieve incoming calls, as the one in NH was set up for outgoing only.
Thats why is it a non issue and was not reported on the news because no laws were broken. In fact the DNC encourged voters to call and that was all Laura did as well.
Gosh Roxy, must make you awfully proud to be a Republican.
