Bay Bridge Closure

The Bay Bridge will be closed throughout Labor Day Weekend.
These are some of the signs I'll be putting up on the 80, 580, 280, 880 and 101.

For me this is like the Superbowl. Shutting down the Bay Bridge, particularly over Labor Day weekend, will result in hundreds of miles of some of the most spectacular traffic jams the Bay Area has ever known. Might as well make use of it.

Thank you--very much.

It's nothing - really. Each of those pictures represents about two hours or so of painting. Once you've got the signs painted, then it's just a matter of driving around looking for clever places to put them.

Hell of a lot of fun.

Your efforts are admirable. I commend you.

(I'm glad you don't live in Asheville.)

i made my first freeway blogging signs last night.

what fun!

(just the thinking about posting them as i was painting was a thrill).

i made a template out of quarter inch plywood (luan underlayment).

so first i lay the two-foot by four-foot plywood template on top of the dried white-painted cardboard which is laying on the concrete.

then i put cinder blocks (and/or heavy, pressure-treated 4x4's) along the letters' edges to press the template hard into the cardboard, which prevents paint leakage and creates quick good-looking signage.

no overhead projector required.

(good thing i had a working jigsaw to cut out the lettering).

anyway, using that method, i can crank out new signs like a factory!

(about one every couple minutes).

so today, i concentrate on locating good places to post them.

wish me luck!

and please send my apologies to the right wing free speech haters who can no longer choose an unAmerican nation for me to be deported to, because tonight i cover my democratic commitment, and by tomorrow morning i will have finally freeway blogged!

(after two years of procrastinating it).

God Bless America!

there was just no way i was gonna let myself get deported.

by doing this freeway blogging thing, my faith in America has just gone wayyy up.

the place already looks different to me now. the sky is bluer, the grass is greener, and the sunshine is flickering more beautifully on the leaves.

Very glad to hear it, Bickerfest. By just taking the time to figure out how to make large text, you're 90% of the way there. (Apparently procrastinating for two years is also de riguer... there's hundreds of thousands of us still in that phase of the operation.

Remember, anything you can see while driving is a place you can put a sign and it'll get read. Pick the cleverest or most annoying places to reach for posting. If you're on the west coast let me know and I can suggest some good spots (metro areas only).

Remember, you're in charge of everything. If a posting looks iffy, drive on.

peace, scarlet
