Permafrost Makes the News... Finally

Signs made with cardboard and paint and were placed along freeways in Petaluma, San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and Sacramento (except the one above, which hung for several weeks outside the Chevron Offices at Pt. Richmond.)
If they think the Permafrost situation is bad, just wait until they find out about the Albedo Effect.

LA/San Bernardino

"The danger is that global warming may become self-sustaining, if it has not done so already..."
Signs placed on the 10, 15, 101, 110 and 405 in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.
Quotation by Stephen Hawking, August 2006
The melting of the Arctic and Antarctic ice caps reduces the fraction of solar energy reflected back into space, and so increases the temperature further.

Climate change may kill off the Amazon and other rain forests, and so eliminate once one of the main ways in which carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere.

The rise in sea temperature may trigger the release of large quantities of carbon dioxide, trapped as hydrides on the ocean floor.

Both these phenomena would increase the greenhouse effect, and so global warming further.

We have to reverse global warming urgently...

if we still can."

Thanksgiving Day Postings

I got up before dawn to get this sign up while it was still reasonably dark. It's over twelve feet long and held up with six wire coat hangers, duct tape and some bungee cords. Traffic here (14 lanes by LAX) is usually at a standstill, which is good because, well... it is a lot of reading.
The other side is much more succinct:

I spent the rest of the morning hitting my usual spots around LA and the Valley and then wended my way up to Ventura for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with family.

Driving back I saw that pretty much every one of these signs, including the huge one by LAX, were still in place, hopefully inspiring some conversations in cars and around some tables.

I just bought a hundred of these posters of the Arctic Ocean from space. They measure a little over four feet by four feet and are made from heavy, weatherproof vinyl. While clearly the earth from a distance, it's not entirely obvious that it's a view of the Arctic, so any ideas for appropriately descriptive texts would be greatly appreciated.

Signs placed on the 405, 10, 101 and 110 Thanksgiving Day in Inglewood, Hollywood, Downtown Los Angeles, Encino, Thousand Oaks, Oxnard and Ventura.

Brian Eno Quotes

"If you want to get unusual results, work fast and work cheap, because there's more of a chance that you'll get somewhere that nobody else did. Nearly always, the effect of spending a lot of money is to make things more normal."
Signs placed on freeways around the San Francisco Bay Area, quotations by Brian Eno.
Newest Album "LUX" now playing at Haneda Airport, Tokyo

"Rationality is what we do to organize the world, to make it possible to predict. Art is the rehearsal for the failure of that process."

"Avant-garde music is a sort of research music. You're glad someone's done it, but you don't necessarily want to listen to it. It's similar to the way I'm very happy people have gone to the North Pole.  It extends my concept of the planet to know it exists, but I don't want to live there... or even go there actually."

"The reason conservatives cohere and radicals fight is that everyone agrees about fears, no one about visions."
"Nearly all the things I do that are of any merit at all start off just being good fun."
" Composition is a way of living out your philosophy and calling it art."

"Cooking is a way of listening to the radio."

"I'm always grumbling when I produce, but it's the people who are dissatisfied that get things changed."
"As struggles go, being an artist isn't that much of one."
