The Awesome Power of the Overhead Projector

Found this lovely pile of cardboard behind a furniture store in Sacramento. Using nothing more than paint, duct-tape, a boxcutter and an overhead projector, I was able to turn it into this:

All in all it didn't take more than eight or nine hours of work, (if you want to call tracing, painting, and listening to music "work,") and I did it alone. Along with the awesome power of the Overhead Projector I can't emphasize enough the power of simply one person working alone. I've posted close to a thousand signs on this weblog, and three quarters of them were done by about six of us. I think "Organizing" has been the clarion call of the left for so long now that it's paralyzed us as individuals. To those of you out there who've been wanting to do this but waiting to "get together" with other people before giving it a try, stop waiting: Just do it.

Put paint on cardboard and then put the cardboard up where your fellow citizens can see it. Send me a picture. So long as it's non-commercial political speech, you can say whatever you want. This is America.

WE WON!

Am proud to announce that our film, "How to Reach 100,000 People for Under a Dollar" won the jury prize at the Huffington Post Contagious Festival. Special thanks to Rob Corsini, who shot and edited the film and to all of you who passed it along to friends.

If you haven't seen it yet, please do. It's about two minutes long and by the end you'll know how to do what I do. It isn't magic... just cardboard and paint.

Back in Sacramento

I put this "got bin laden?" up three days ago on fencing next to the 80 on the outside of a broad lefthand curve. Sure looked good this morning.

As I was putting this one up over bumper-to-bumper traffic, I heard one of those ferocious, angry "FUCK YOU! YOU FUCKIN' blah blah blah"s from down below. It was startling, actually, for both its volume and rage, like the bellow of some huge, mortally wounded beast. For all his anger though, the poor fellow apparently couldn't spare the five-to-seven minutes it would've cost him to take down the sign. It was still up an hour later.
