If history had ever seen a more cowardly group or tactic than the Swift-Boaters, we'd have a word for them besides "Swift-boaters". They might need to add a new layer when these guys go to hell.

Actually, the tactic does have a precedent. It's what playground bullies sometimes use. Make up a smear, and if you can get all the other kids chanting it with you, you've won.
The playground bullies are bad, but in the current context, I have to wonder what it means that the other "kids" don't have the sense to squelch them.
